Conference Facilities
The Royal Canadian Military Institute offers a unique and private environment for holding business meetings, as well as a variety of seminar, lecture and conference functions. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, the Institute is conveniently only a moment away form the St. Patrick subway station. Eight meeting rooms are readily available for different sized meetings, serving both small and large groups up to 120 plus persons. Our facilities feature beautiful and professional decor, and carry a sense of history, of dynamism and purpose.
Audio-visual equipment can easily be arranged to suit all needs. The Institute can also arrange catering through its Services division, a separate non-profit organization that operates on a small profit-basis, and directly supports the scholarly and educational activities of the Institute.

MEETING FACILITIES

The Institute provides an ideal facility for hosting a lectures, seminars, and conferences, and has provided it to a range of business, non-governmental, and governmental organizations.

Lecture/Dining Room

The principal venue for holding large events is the Lecture/Dining Room. Located on the second floor of the Institute's facilities, and capable of up to 120 seated guests, this room is the ideal facility for holding seminars, receptions and conferences. The room features an assortment of historical paintings, candelabra, as well as elegant curtains and tablecloths, allowing for a beautiful and unique backdrop for a variety of events, large and small.

Ward Room

For Institute also has venues for smaller meetings. The Ward Room, located on the second floor, is capable of holding up to 40 people, and is ideal for seminars, roundtable presentations and moderate-sized business meetings. The room carries a strong, historic overtone, as it was created as a means of welcoming the growing importance of the Canadian Navy, and therefore features a striking array of naval-related artefacts and paintings. It not only offers ideal facilities for meetings, but carries an ambience unlike any other.

Wings Room

Another venue ideal for small meetings is the Wings Room. The sibling to the Ward Room, this facility features a strong Air Force theme, and is capable of comfortably holding up to 30 people. Aside from its intimate atmosphere, and its convenient position near the Institute’s catering services, this facility is displays the Institute’s most famous artefact: the seat of Baron von Richthofen’s fokker triplane, donated by Captain A. Roy Brown, a Canadian ace of the First World War, who downed the famous German aviator.

Kay Christie Room

The Kay Christie Room, conventionally located in the back of our building, is capable of seating more than 45 guests in a very private atmosphere, and is perfect for conferences, presentations and press releases that require space for audiovisuals and camera crews. It is named after the late RCMI member Kay Christie, a nursing sister who was posted in Hong Kong during the Second World War and was subsequently taken as a POW by the Japanese Imperial Army. The room has been recently renovated and, in addition to the traditional displays of Kay Christie, now features beautifully drawn military pencil sketches displayed on its walls.

Captain Stethem Room

With the Captain Stethem Room, capable of comfortably seating 14 guests, the Institute is able to cater to small, private business meetings. This room, adjacent to the renown RCMI Library, is named after the late Captain Stethem, the late RCMI President and prominent military analyst, who heavily contributed to the Institute’s mandate, the ““the Promotion and Fostering of Military Art, Science and Literature in Canada.” While overlooking busy University Avenue, this venue is capable of the quietness and privacy featured throughout our Institute.

Main Lounge and Sword and Pistol Room

The warm and inviting Main Lounge (seating 100) and the Sword and Pistol Room (seating 20) feature prominent displays from our impressive Museum collection; one is an open space, which can be used for seminars and presentations, as well as registration and meeting areas for larger, conference events; the other is a display room for our collection of military weapons (swords and pistols), which doubles as a convenient meeting area.
