Library and Archives Collections |
|
The Library seeks to educate members and the public in the study of military art, literature and science. The Library was started (soon after founding in 1890) with a donation of over 200 volumes from “the late Militia Institute.” Among the larger donations over the years was over 700 volumes that came in 1925 from the estate of Colonel George T. Denison. Other donations, in one and twos and more, have continued to today, supplemented by acquisitions. The early initiatives have grown to a collection of over 30,000 volumes, a number which continues to grow, despite constant culling to avoid duplication or lessened relevance. |

The Library collections of books and archives now forms a corpus of military history, science, art and literature. Maintained as a ready reference source, it is the largest privately maintained military library in Canada and one of the larger in America. It is for the education, enlightenment and entertainment of those whose interests lie in the broadest sense of “military.” Its wide range of subject matter allows the detailed study of subjects not readily available elsewhere. Books range from ancient histories to the latest publications just appearing on the markets. There is a wide diversity of books, on such topics as Caesar's Wars, the Napoleonic Wars, those in South America, South Africa, Korea and the Middle East. |
