The primary objective of the Royal Canadian Military Institute is "the Promotion and Fostering of Military Art, Science and Literature in Canada." The Institute is therefore pleased to present the Commentary series, which will feature brief and timely analysis of a range of contemporary military and strategic issues.

This RCMI Commentary examines the Canada-US relationship. It is written by Dwight Mason, a Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Wade Huntley, "US Space Weaponization Planning and Implications for Canada" RCMI Commentary (October 2005)
This RCMI Commentary examines the American plans for the weaponization of space, and is written by Dr. Wade Huntley, Director of the Simons Centre for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Research at the Liu Institute for Global Studies.

This RCMI Commentary examines the strategic importance of New Orleans for the American economy, and assesses Hurricane Katrina's consequences. It is written by Sunil Ram, Professor at American Military University and a member of the RCMI Defence Studies Committee.
Ernie Regehr, "Failure to Meet the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Challenge" RCMI Commentary (July 2005)
This RCMI Commentary examines the problems associated with non-proliferation and the lack of agreement at the recent 2005 Review Conference for the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). It is written by Ernie Regehr, Director and Co-founder of Project Ploughshares and an Adjunct Associate Professor in Peace and Conflict Studies at Conrad Grebel University College.
Philippe Lagassé, "A Cautionary Perspective of the Defence Policy Statement" RCMI Commentary (June 2005)
This RCMI Commentary examines potential problems associated with the Canadian Defence Policy Statement (DPS). It is written by Philippe Lagassé, a doctoral candidate at Carleton University and a pre-doctoral fellow at NPSIA's Centre for Security and Defence Studies.
Sunil Ram, "Iran's Nuclear Ambitions: Another Case of the Magic Slideshow?" RCMI Commentary (May 2005)
The Iranian government has recently rejected the European offer to halt its uranium enrichment program, which many believe is part of a covert attempt to develop nuclear weapons, in exchange for economic aid. This RCMI Commentary provides a succint overview of Iranian nuclear proliferation. It is written by Professor Sunil Ram, a member of the Institute's Defence Studies Committee.
David S. McDonough, "The Defence Policy Statement and Its Promise of Expeditionary Capabilities" RCMI Commentary (May 2005)
The role of expeditionary forces is given a prominent place in the Canadian Government's Defence Policy Statement (DPS). This RCMI Commentary examines the potential, and the problems associated with such a capability. It is written by David S. McDonough, Communications and Programmes Officer at the RCMI.
