The RCMI Library

The Library is fully automated and the catalogue is searchable on any device.

Library Catalogue

With over 15,000 volumes, the collection forms a compilation of military history, science and art, the largest privately funded and maintained library of its kind in Canada, and one of the larger in North America.  Its wide range of subject matter includes Army, Navy, Air Force, training and equipment, tactics and strategy, biographies and memoirs, uniforms, medals, social issues, war art and poetry.  This allows for a detailed study of subjects not readily found elsewhere.

Please note:  The Library does not have Military Service Files.  The personal information contained in these restricted files is protected by the provisions of privacy legislation.  These files are held by Library and Archives Canada, and individuals may apply for copies of family records.

The RCMI Library is open to the public for reference use only.   By appointment with the Librarian.

Members have borrowing privileges, and may take out most books on a 30-day loan.

A professional Librarian is on staff  to develop the collection, design and maintain the database, and catalogue the collection.  She also handles day-to-day operations, responds to reference queries, and ensures the safekeeping of the collection.

The RCMI Library is a member of Library and Archives Canada (LAC), Special Libraries Association (SLA) and Club Librarians Association.
